To some, the end of World War One was the beginning of opportunity, and Alcock and Brown made the first ever non-stop transatlantic flight from Newfoundland to Galway on 14th June 1919
They flew a modified First World War Vickers Vimy bomber from Trespassy Harbour, St. John s, Newfoundland, 1, 960 miles to Derrygimla bog, Clifden, Connemara, County Galway, Ireland. They arrived at 08.40am on 15th June.
The Secretary of State for Air, Winston Churchill, presented them with the Daily Mail prize for the first crossing of the Atlantic Ocean by aeroplane in " less than 72 consecutive hours". A small amount of mail was carried on the flight, making it the first transatlantic airmail flight. The two aviators were awarded the honour of Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE) a week later by King George V at Windsor Castle.

EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this photo print, we are transported back to a momentous time in history when two daring aviators forever changed the course of aviation. Captain John William Alcock and Lieutenant Arthur Whitten-Brown stand proudly side by side, their faces etched with determination and excitement. The end of World War One marked a turning point for these brave men, as they saw an opportunity to push the boundaries of human achievement. On June 14th, 1919, Alcock and Brown embarked on an extraordinary journey that would capture the world's imagination - the first ever non-stop transatlantic flight. Their modified Vickers Vimy bomber soared through the skies from Newfoundland to Galway, covering a staggering distance of 1,960 miles. After enduring treacherous weather conditions and battling fatigue for over 16 hours, they triumphantly landed at Derrygimla bog in County Galway on June 15th at dawn's early light. Their remarkable feat earned them accolades from none other than Winston Churchill himself who presented them with the prestigious Daily Mail prize. Not only did they achieve this historic milestone in under 72 consecutive hours but also carried a small amount of mail across continents - marking it as the first transatlantic airmail flight. A week later, King George V bestowed upon them one of Britain's highest honors - Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of British Empire (KBE). Their legacy lives on as true pioneers who defied gravity and opened up new horizons for future generations.
