Brain anatomy
Brain anatomy. Historical anatomical artwork of internal brain structures. The brain is seen from below, with the front of the brain at top. Part of the brain has been removed. The bilateral symmetry of the brain is seen, with the two hemispheres of the cerebrum at upper right and left (yellow, folded surfaces). The cerebellum at the rear of the brain (lower centre, brown) has been cut in half. Above this are paired structures: part of the thalamus (white, centre) and the hippocampus (blue, either side). Above these is a forked space that is part of the lateral ventricles. Artwork from The Nerves of the Human Body (Ed. Jones Quain, London, 1839)
