EDITORS COMMENTS
Standing sentinel over the rugged Cornish coastline, Roche Rock's ancient ruins whisper secrets of a bygone era. This stunning glass lantern slide, captured by Major Arthur William Gill in the 1920s, reveals the remnants of St Michael's Chapel, a testament to the Tregarrick family's legacy. The last stronghold of this noble line, the chapel stands as a poignant reminder of Cornwall's rich history and heritage. Gill's masterful hand-painted quarter plate slide brings alive the textures and hues of this windswept landscape. The soft focus and subtle color palette evoke a sense of nostalgia and timelessness, transporting us to an era when life was simpler and more serene. As part of his renowned lectures on 'Some Historic Cornish Beauty Spots', Gill shared his passion for Cornwall with audiences across the region. His slides were treasured for their beauty and historical significance, offering a glimpse into a world that was rapidly disappearing. Today, Roche Rock remains an iconic symbol of Cornwall's unique cultural identity. This image serves as a poignant reminder to cherish our heritage and preserve it for future generations.
