EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a collection of medallion portraits of Napoleon Bonaparte, dating back to the late 18th century. The creator of this remarkable piece remains unknown, adding an air of mystery to these historical treasures. At the top, we find a delicate crayon drawing by Andre Dutertre, depicting Napoleon as the General-in-Chief aboard the ship L'Orient during his Egyptian Campaign in 1799. This particular portrait is said to have been drawn from life, capturing the essence and charisma of one of history's most iconic figures. To the left and right are plaster molds created by Louis-Simon Boizot. These meticulously crafted medallions showcase different versions of Napoleon's profile, each highlighting his distinct features and commanding presence. Lastly, at the bottom lies another masterpiece by Boizot - a portrayal of Bonaparte as First Consul in 1799. This image symbolizes his rise to power and sets the stage for his future endeavors as Emperor. Made in Sevres, France, these medallions represent not only artistic excellence but also serve as significant historical artifacts that shed light on Napoleon's reign and influence over France during this pivotal period. Preserved within Raymond Guyot's book "Napoleon" published in Paris in 1921 by H. Floury Editions Librairie Henri Floury, this print offers us a glimpse into both artistry and history intertwined.
