Soviet born ballet dancer Rudolf Nureyev poses 22 June 1961 at the Theatre des Champs Elyses in Paris where he will perform with the International Ballet of the Marquis de Cuevas. Nureyev studied at the Leningrad Choreographic School, and became a soloist with the Kirov Ballet. While touring with the Ballet in 1961, he obtained political asylum in Paris. Nureyevs virtuosity and expressiveness made him one of the greatest male dancers of the 1960 s, in both classical and modern ballets. He became ballet director of the Paris Opera in 1983. / AFP PHOTO
