EDITORS COMMENTS
Coventry Carnival Queen, Melanie Greasley (16), stands proudly with The Entertainers XI football team as they gear up for a charity match against Aston Villa Old Stars XI. This memorable event was organized by Coventry Round Table No. 23 to raise funds for the renovation and decoration of the Samaritans' new headquarters at the historic Old Blue Coat School in Coventry. With Richard O'Sullivan (2nd player from left, front row) and Robin Asquith (far right player on back row) among their ranks, The Entertainers XI were ready to showcase their skills on the field. A crowd of approximately 2,500 people gathered at Coventry Stadium on Rugby Road in Brandon to witness this exciting clash. The game proved to be an exhilarating spectacle as both teams displayed remarkable talent and sportsmanship. Despite their best efforts, The Entertainers fell short against Aston Villa Old Stars with a final score of 4-2. Nevertheless, the true victory lay in the generosity shown by all those involved in supporting this noble cause. This photograph captures not only the beauty queen herself but also highlights the spirit of unity within both sport and community service during that era. It serves as a timeless reminder of how individuals can come together through entertainment and football to make a positive impact on society.
